About the Role
Our QLD Managed Services department is currently seeking to employ a Systems Engineer to join their high performing team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide our customer base with complex technical maintenance and support services. You will be working with a team of experienced professionals on midrange systems used by enterprise customers. Your experience and interest in midranged systems such as Linux and Solaris will help customers achieve their business growth and your expertise will help guide customers to new innovative solutions.
The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring that all Customer Service Requests are achieved within SLA
- Ensuring Knowledge Management is up to date
- Administration of infrastructure management tools
- Deployment and on-boarding of new customers including monitoring and management tools – Bigfix, Traverse, PRTG, Oracle Enterprise Manager
- Preparing and implementing system and security patches
- Problem identification and resolution
- System build, implementation and documentation
- Administration and management of Infrastructure services, such as backups, restores, messaging, logging and troubleshooting
- Performing upgrades on server hardware and operating systems
- Pro-Actively managing server resources and ensuring that they are available at all times
- Updating Service Desk tickets on a daily basis to reflect any work actioned, client communication or resolutions
- Keeping the client updated with “in progress” tickets; and
- Ensuring clear and concise call notes to maximise operational efficiency and effective review.
This position will require the successful candidate to be available for on-call support on a rotational basis. The successful candidate must also be willing to occasionally work after hours when support is required.
About You
To be considered for this position, you will need to possess the following:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in administering a Midrange production environment
- ITIL Foundations V3 and Midrange Certifications (e.g. Linux, Solaris)
- Ability to resolve complex desktop issues
- Exposure to DR methodologies and planning
- Exceptional problem solving skills and customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to work well within a small team
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload
- Willingness to take ownership of issues and seek resolutions
- Able to produce accurate and concise technical documentation; and
- Vendor management and proposal creation / documentation experience.
The following skills and experience would be desirable:
- Previous IT Infrastructure relocation experience
- On-call support experience for Midrange Servers
- Ability to be proactive and perform preventative maintenance when necessary
- Exposure to outsourced IT environments
- Exposure to Storage Area Network (SAN)
- Exposure to automated system monitoring/management tools
- Platform support experience using Solaris and Linux platforms
- Capacity planning experience
- Exposure to, or conceptual understanding of core I.T. services such as backup and recovery, messaging, anti-vus, proxies etc., and
- Exposure to backup software e.g. Commvault, NetBackup.
