The Challenge
The Council was dissatisfied with its legacy IT infrastructure, which was ageing and difficult to operate and maintain. In addition, the lack of integration within its systems resulted in inefficient operations. As a result, Kaikoura District Council wanted a new system that was fully integrated, easy to use and had the flexibility to incorporate future enhancements.
The Datacom Difference
Datacom and Kaikoura District Council quickly established an effective partnership. The Council was willing to trust and accept our advice on the best solution and where it needed to change its business operations to achieve the best result. The recommended solution was to replace the Council’s legacy system with Datacom’s Ozone Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for local government. It is indicative of the trust and faith Kaikoura District Council had in Datacom’s abilities and expertise, particularly as we were using consultants who were new to the business and had never been involved in a project of this size or nature.
Results
Once the migration was completed, the new system’s ease of use resulted in a much happier staff. There is now a much higher uptake and use of the network. Previously, tasks such as Excel spreadsheets had to be undertaken outside of the core system. Now, all relevant data is accessible right across council on a single platform. This improved visibility has also enhanced Kaikoura District Council’s ability to extract the information necessary for effective, accurate and rapid reporting.
“Our team at Kaikoura District Council is a very small group of multitaskers with extremely limited resources to take on a major software migration. We had experienced a similar software integration just three years earlier and so some of us were dreading going through that again. I’m delighted to say that the move to Ozone was incredibly smooth, the consultants were very knowledgeable and were fantastic in helping with data reconciliations during the go-live period. Working alongside our staff, Datacom helped make the process really quite seamless.”
