Working with City Missions to help the homeless

Auckland and Wellington City Missions provide care and support for those in critical need, providing professional services to marginalised New Zealanders, including the homeless, elderly and families or individuals in crisis.

The Auckland City Mission was established in 1920, and the Wellington City Mission since 1904. Auckland City Mission is a Registered Charitable Trust which operates with a voluntary Board of Trustees and a professional management structure.

Datacom is a proud supporter of both City Missions in New Zealand through financial donations, offering our staff for volunteer work, and collections since the 1990s. Datacom also helps with events such as the Christmas donation drive, Christmas raffle gold-coin entry and encouraging staff to donate Christmas gifts, and is a key part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme in New Zealand.

During the 2016 financial year, 47 Datacom New Zealand staff donated 200 volunteer hours, $8,000 in cash and 40 large boxes of food and toys. Last Christmas, staff donated food, children’s toys and money which was placed under the Christmas trees around the Datacom offices and donated at Christmas. Also, as a new initiative, more than 160 of our staff generously donated their personal Christmas gift given to them by Datacom.
