The Challenge
NHMRC was looking for infrastructure solutions that modernised the business, opening it up to a cloud strategy which was cost effective, reliable and flexible, streamlining supportability and enabling the NHMRC to focus investment on its core business. This needed to be aligned to core business strategic objectives and tie into wider Whole-of-Government ICT initiatives.
The Datacom Difference
NHMRC was already engaged with Datacom as a Managed Services customer in the running its on-premises ICT hardware and services. The ability to tag-team between the local experts specialised in Australian Federal Government implementations and Datacom’s cloud and infrastructure specialists from around the country remains industry leading. This combined applied industry expertise, guided by our mature cloud adoption framework, led to the development of a rapid cloud migration roadmap, accounting for inherent risk and remaining adaptable to suit the customer’s future needs.
The Results
By producing a cloud transition roadmap utilising two leading public cloud providers, as well as a modern workforce compute strategy alongside cloud-based office productivity, Datacom was able to tie End-User Compute and Cloud strategies together and align recommendations with NHMRC’s strategic goals.
Existing and projected spending were analysed to ascertain the savings possible through changes to capital and operational expenditure over time. This meant work to increase efficiencies through Infrastructure-as-a-Service removing the need for an on-site data centre and its associated costs, boosting productivity via automation and utilising Software-as-a-Service solutions such as Office 365.
Datacom put the customer’s needs first by focusing on our long-term partnership, becoming a trusted advisor to provide NHMRC with ongoing value-added improvements. As a result, NHMRC has engaged Datacom further to continue to better understand cloud-based opportunities to achieve business goals.
“NHMRC and Datacom established a good working relationship to develop both the Cloud Strategy and Transition Roadmap for NHMRC, and the new End-user Computing Strategy . The work was undertaken in a professional and positive way, with the Datacom team applying themselves diligently, demonstrating a highly respectful and flexible approach to delivering the best outcome for NHMRC.”
