At Datacom we want our people to upskill in any direction they choose, and equip our future leaders with the tools, information and team management skills they need to step into leadership roles.
We have a tailored, Datacom-specific Strategic Leadership Development Programme run by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and make places available across the Group every year. This culminates an eight-day placement in a community where leaders contribute to their well-being, growth and development. This allows leaders to get in touch with their own values, develop teamwork and developing their community and social responsibility. The last three placements were in Laos’ remote villages.
In New Zealand we run Business Manager Boot Camps throughout the year to equip up-and-coming managers for the responsibilities of running a business unit. It’s an intensive internal course that covers Datacom culture, managing people, recruitment, responding to customers and other essentials.
In Australia and Asia we run the Emerging Managers Programme. The programme is founded on the premise that self-awareness and understanding of our impact on others is critical in our ability to improve our leadership style. In addition to these insights the programme develops skills in coaching conversations, managerial resilience, customer relationship management, team building and personal development.
Outside of our regular programmes, we provide staff with external training whenever appropriate. We also collaborate and share knowledge through regular internal presentations covering a wide range of topics from staff at any level.
Coding competitions such as this year’s DataComp keep things fun and competitive and cash prizes are up for grabs as well as kudos. Every year we see some amazing solutions come out of the teams – and better still, they are theirs to own.
