The role of a Backups and Recovery Administrator is to manage and maintain the hardware and software of the backup infrastructure.

To provide proactive and reactive support services to maintain the availability and reliability of a customer’s data in conjunction with agreed SLA’s. The engineer is responsible for the timely action of customer service requests, within the agreed service level whilst maintaining accurate and timely updates to technical documentation and ticket notes. You will also be required to operate under the guidelines of pre-defined processes and procedures and are expected to ensure effective and professional communication with all relevant parties.

 

The core objectives and responsibilities of the Backups and Recovery Administrator may include but not limited to: 

  1. Meet client SLAs for service availability, uptime and reliability.
  2. Work in line with strong ITIL processes, Incident, Change, Problem and Release.
  3. Proactively manage and monitor the system environment for performance and capacity.
  4. Work with a continual service improvement mindset.
  5. Breakdown issues and problems with logical troubleshooting and skills. 

Knowledge Skills and Experience

 

Essential 

  • Strong Experience managing Backup Infrastructure
  • Strong Experience with Veritas NetBackup, Appliances & OpsCentre Reporting
  • Knowledge of SAN Infrastructure (IBM, HP, EMC, NetApp)
  • Knowledge of VMWare Backup Technologies (E.g. – VADP)
  • Experience with Backups/Restores of Windows, Linux and Database Technologies
  • ITIL V3 Foundation Certification 

Desirable 

  • Exposure to backup products outside of Veritas Netbackup
  • Exposure to Veritas Cluster Service
  • Netbackup replication (AIR)
  • Networking troubleshooting
  • RHEL Linux, Windows Server system administration
  • VMWare administration
  • Veritas NetBackup Certification
  • Baseline Government Clearance
