Background
Datacom Group started operations in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1965 and today operates primarily in New Zealand and Australia with close to 5,000 staff spread between these two countries. Our international expansion beyond the ANZ market started in 1996 with our first Asia office in Malaysia. In the subsequent 15 years we built a successful, large BPO business which by 2013 consisted of nearly 1,500 staff based in Malaysia and Philippines before divesting most of that business to a larger provider to focus on higher value services.
In 2010 Datacom won a global RFP for Parallels Software (since renamed to Odin) based in Seattle. Parallels delivered a set of software applications that provide large Telco and Service Providers with hosting and orchestration capability. Through our relationship with Parallels we have subsequently delivered services to over 50 Telcos and service providers around the world in 32 countries.
It is envisaged that in the next three years the Datacom U.S and European business will experience exponential growth as we continue to delivery new and exciting services to the market.
Datacom in the International Market today
Datacom considers the International Market to be any work delivered outside of Australia/New Zealand and the ASEAN market. Today this is primarily North America (United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil) and Europe (Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Norway).
The primary work delivered into this market is our Application Management for the Odin Automation Platform (OAP) as a subcontractor to Odin. OAP is a complex application that delivers centralised orchestration and hosting for Telcos and Service Providers looking to provide SaaS based services to their customers. Datacom has built a world leading capability within the product set and are tasked with keeping the platform that serves our customers’ core business running smoothly.
As our relationships with customers have grown, we have been expanding into other services for our customers, including software development, IT outsourcing, cloud hosting and SaaS product support services. Our ambition is to continue expanding our relationships with existing customers and to explore opportunities to deliver further growth in new markets and customers that we are not currently in today.
The Dell Opportunity
Dell is our largest customer in the International Market. Our relationship started in 2011 when Dell decided to Go to Market in the U.S. with syndicated Office 365 services from Microsoft. After a competitive process, Dell chose both Odin and Datacom to deliver the platform and application management to enable these services. Datacom was also awarded the support services for any customers that purchased Office 365 for Dell, providing activation, on-boarding, migration and support services to all customers globally that purchase Office 365 from Dell.
Since 2011, Dell are now delivering over 80,000 Office 365 seats into 20+ countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. Azure was also added as a service delivered through the Odin Platform in early 2016. Our services delivered to Dell have also grown to include middleware development, professional services, IT management and Azure support, in addition to the original application management of the Odin platform (which has now tripled in size) and Office 365 support services.
Dell are now embarking on an aggressive expansion of their SaaS Go to Market strategy, that includes selling Office 365 licenses with all OEM business laptops sold on the Dell.com website, as well as further expansions into Azure and other SaaS based products.
To be able to scale the delivery of growth of the Dell account, we are looking for a dynamic individual who can take responsibility for the overall quality of delivery provided to Dell from the wider Datacom businesses and to continue to identify new opportunities to grow our footprint and relationship with Dell.
