Datacom is delighted to announce Aditi Sherekar as the 2018 Imagine Cup Scholarship winner. This scholarship offers Ms Sherekar a paid internship in Datacom’s Software group, based in our Gaunt St office.
Microsoft’s Imagine Cup is an annual competition that empowers the next generation of students to team up and use their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications that shape how we live, work and play. Datacom offers this scholarship to students to put their theoretical learning into practice in real-world situations and provides the opportunity to work on real projects. The Imagine Cup Scholarship is offered each year to a student who has taken part in either the Microsoft Imagine Cup or the Microsoft Student Accelerator Programme and demonstrated exceptional business and technology acumen.
Ms Sherekar is in her final year of a Bachelor of Science at the University of Auckland, majoring in Computer Science and Psychology. She is passionate about bringing change to the healthcare industry through technology and demonstrates her passion in this area through working on her own technology projects outside of University.
Sherekar was a part of the team ‘ABCreations’, a semi-finalist in this year’s Imagine Cup. Their app, OnTrack is designed to address the problems associated with studying and time constraints, and to offer further learning services to students. She will complete her internship in the Application Management team later in the year.
Sunny Katira, Associate Director of Software Auckland says “This is the seventh year we’ve held the Imagine Cup Scholarship, and each year we’re amazed at the standard of the applications we receive. This year’s applications showed a good combination of business and technology skills, but what really stood out to us about Aditi was her passion for the health sector - we thought her drive and ambition would make her a great fit for Datacom. She was very articulate and confident, and we saw her skills being transferable to all kinds of roles in the future, not just as a developer. Congratulations to Aditi and we look forward to her joining the team.”
Datacom has offered the Imagine Cup Scholarship since 2011, with outstanding results from the winners; often placing graduating students into permanent roles. We would like to thank everyone that entered this year and wish you all the best for entering in 2019.
